1. Orthopedic Pelvic Health

Merging orthopedic expertise with Pelvic Health enables me to better serve my clients.  Using a whole person approach, I can more quickly determine the root cause, and not just spend time treating the symptoms.

As I tell my clients, you are MORE THAN A PELVIS!

Orthopedic PT involves assessing the musculoskeletal system through movement analysis, postural evaluation, joint and soft tissue mobility, range of motion, strength and neurological testing.

Why this matters in pelvic health:

  • Issues with your feet can affect how your pelvis and hip’s function and vice versa.
  • Your gait pattern during your run may be why you are leaking!
  • Lack of mobility in your thoracic spine and ribcage leads to inefficient breathing patterns which can then present with stress incontinence and pelvic floor tension
  • Weakness in your upper body and back may be leading to poor pressure management and worsening symptoms of prolapse.
  • Lack of mobility in your spine and hips may be causing pelvic floor pain

2. Women’s Health

Pelvic PT’s are specialized in assessing the tissue health and muscles in and around the pelvis. We are trained in understanding complex issues surrounding reproductive and sexual health, pelvic pain, bladder and bowel health.

Your pelvic floor muscles play an important role in your sexual health and pleasure, bladder and bowel continence, and pelvic organ support. They also work with your diaphragm, abdominal and deep back muscles to aid in core stability.

My approach to Pelvic Health is patient centered and trauma informed. Our office is designed to create a safe space that is conducive to healing.  Our first appointment consists of a very thorough intake, giving you time to share your story without interruption or judgment. Next we perform a whole body evaluation and *pelvic assessment ( per your consent). While the internal exam can be an incredibly helpful component, it is NEVER required. We can discuss what options are best for you.

Pelvic floor therapy is beneficial to women of ALL ages and seasons of life.

Not only do we help with issues like leaking with coughing and sneezing, but we also address painful periods, infertility, pain with sex, pelvic organ prolapses, urinary urgency, and orthopedic issues like hip and tailbone pain.

Our needs change through different seasons of life, and pelvic health PT can help you continue do to all the things you love!

3. Holistic Approach

A holistic approach to physical therapy (PT) involves treating the whole person rather than just focusing on a specific injury or condition. It considers the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit in promoting health and well-being.

Individualized Care – I take into account each patient’s unique needs, preferences, and goals and consider not only the physical symptoms but also the emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of health.

Patient Empowerment– Empower patients to take an active role in their healing process through education, self-care techniques, and support for healthy lifestyle habits.

Mind-Body Connection– I recognize the interconnectedness of the mind and body and may incorporate practices such as prayer, journaling, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, guided imagery, and breathwork into treatment plans to promote healing and reduce stress.

Nutrition and Lifestyle Counseling– I will provide guidance on nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, stress management, and other lifestyle factors that can impact physical health and recovery.

Collaborative Care– I often collaborate with other healthcare providers, such as nutritionists, doulas, midwives, mental health providers, OB-GYN and Sexual Health providers, acupuncturists, and chiropractors, to provide comprehensive care that addresses the diverse needs of the patient.
